Fraudulent emails

Fraudulent emails have been received by our customers from some email accounts. The email requests they input their ATM or Debit Card Number and personal identification number (PIN). Do not respond to these emails and delete the email message immediately!

The Poca Valley Bank will NOT ask you for your PIN number on the telephone or via email.

Personal Online Banking Customers

For security purposes, you will be prompted to change your password at least every six months. PVB will NOT use a pop-up window or an email to request that you provide a new PIN or password.

Hackers will create & run a web page that looks similar to a bank, then requests the bank customer to immediately change their PIN.

The changed PIN is accessible to the hackers if you go to their website by clicking a link contained in an email from them.

If you are in doubt about a request via email for your information, please call us at 304-577-6611 during normal business hours. The Poca Valley Bank does NOT collect personal information on anyone visiting our Website.

Call Us If You Plan to Use Your Card(s) Out of State

Please call your local branch if you plan to use your credit card or debit card when traveling. This will help ensure that our fraud prevention measures do not cause your card to blocked when you are making purchases out of state. For credit cards, you may also call 1-877-602-8965.

Credit, Debit & ATM Card Fraud Prevention

To protect your account, your credit, debit and ATM card transactions are monitored for potentially fraudulent activity which may include a sudden change in locale (such as when a U.S.-issued card is used unexpectedly overseas), a sudden string of costly purchases, or any pattern associated with new fraud trends around the world.

If we suspect fraudulent ATM or debit card use, we’ll be calling you to validate the legitimacy of your transactions. Your participation in responding to our call is critical to prevent potential risk and avoid restrictions we may place on the use of your card.

  • Our automated call will ask you to verify recent transaction activity on your card
  • You’ll be able to respond via your touchtone keypad
  • You’ll also be provided a toll-free number to call should you have additional questions

Our goal, quite simply, is to minimize your exposure to risk and the impact of any fraud. To ensure we can continue to reach you whenever potential fraud is detected, please keep us informed of your correct phone number and address at all times.

Protect yourself

In the meantime, please be diligent in monitoring transaction activity on your account and contact us immediately if you identify any fraudulent transactions.

  • People watching your transactions
  • Cashiers taking your card out of sight; take it to the register yourself
